*The exact date of Duvall's allotment to the Fourth Circuit, presumably pursuant to a presidential order, is unknown. The first documented Supreme Court order allotting him is dated March 14, 1812. The minutes of the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Maryland in Baltimore, however, indicate that Duvall presided over that court on December 13, 1811, so that date is used here.
