Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on March 15, 1954, to a seat vacated by W. Calvin Chesnut. Confirmed by the Senate on May 11, 1954, and received commission on May 12, 1954. Served as chief judge, 1955-1970. Assumed senior status on January 31, 1971. Service terminated on March 11, 1992, due to death.
