Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on February 16, 1966, to a seat vacated by William D. Murray. Confirmed by the Senate on March 25, 1966, and received commission on March 26, 1966. Served as chief judge, 1968-1978. Assumed senior status on May 12, 1979. Service terminated on March 29, 1990, due to death.
