Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 21, 1935, to a seat vacated by Frank H. Kerrigan. Confirmed by the Senate on August 23, 1935, and received commission on August 24, 1935. Served as chief judge, 1948-1958. Assumed senior status on March 1, 1958. Service terminated on July 1, 1964, due to death.
