1. The act of March 10, 1824, 4 Stat. 9, transferred this judgeship from the District of Alabama.
2. The act of June 5, 1936, 49 Stat. 1476, assigned this judgeship exclusively to the Middle District of Alabama.
3. The act of March 26, 1938, 52 Stat. 120, authorized a temporary judgeship for the court and provided that the next vacancy in the office of the existing district judge not be filled. In accordance with the statute, no successor to David Davis was appointed.
4. The act of December 1, 1990, 104 Stat. 5089, as amended by the act of November 28, 1995, 109 Stat. 635, authorized a temporary judgeship for the court and provided that the first vacancy in the district occurring five years or more after the confirmation date of the judge appointed to fill the temporary judgeship not be filled. In accordance with the statute, no successor to William Acker was appointed.
5. The act of November 2, 2002, 116 Stat. 1758, authorized a temporary judgeship for the court, extended most recently by the act of March 23, 2024, Pub. L. 118-47, which provided that the first vacancy in the district after September 17, 2025, not be filled.
