Received a recess appointment from Harry S Truman on October 21, 1949, to a seat vacated by Robert L. Russell; nominated to the same position by Harry S Truman on January 5, 1950. Confirmed by the Senate on February 21, 1950, and received commission on February 23, 1950. Served as chief judge, 1950-1965. Assumed senior status on June 29, 1967. Service terminated on February 11, 1985, due to death.
