The act of May 24, 1940, 54 Stat. 219, authorized one judgeship to serve the Northern and Southern Districts of Florida. The act provided that the judgeship would be assigned exclusively to the district in which a vacancy next occurred. In accordance with the act, the judgeship was assigned to the Northern District of Florida exclusively in 1947.
