Nominated by Jimmy Carter on June 2, 1978, to a seat vacated by H. Vearle Payne. Confirmed by the Senate on July 10, 1978, and received commission on July 12, 1978. Served as chief judge, 1987-1989. Assumed senior status on December 26, 1992. Service terminated on January 20, 2001, due to death.
