Nominated by Harry S Truman on April 5, 1949, to a seat vacated by Francis Ryan Duffy. Confirmed by the Senate on May 17, 1949, and received commission on May 19, 1949. Served as chief judge, 1954-1971. Assumed senior status on June 30, 1971. Service terminated on November 27, 1975, due to death.
