Received a recess appointment from Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 13, 1960, to a new seat authorized by 73 Stat. 4; nominated to the same position by Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 10, 1961. Confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 1961, and received commission on September 22, 1961. Served as chief judge, 1960-1961. Assumed senior status on April 12, 1972. Service terminated on August 3, 1976, due to death.
