Nominated by Harry S Truman on September 15, 1949, to a seat vacated by Walter C. Lindley. Confirmed by the Senate on October 12, 1949, and received commission on October 13, 1949. Served as chief judge, 1956-1965. Service terminated on September 16, 1965, due to death.
