Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on January 19, 1942, to a seat vacated by Thomas C. Munger. Confirmed by the Senate on February 9, 1942, and received commission on February 13, 1942. Served as chief judge, 1956-1957. Assumed senior status on April 30, 1957. Service terminated on April 20, 1972, due to death.
