Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 19, 1939, to a seat vacated by John J. Gore. Confirmed by the Senate on July 12, 1939, and received commission on July 12, 1939. Served as chief judge, 1954-1957. Service terminated on January 7, 1957, due to death.
