Received a recess appointment from Calvin Coolidge on April 6, 1927, to a new seat authorized by 44 Stat. 1346; nominated to the same position by Calvin Coolidge on December 6, 1927. Confirmed by the Senate on December 19, 1927, and received commission on December 19, 1927. Served as chief judge, 1948-1955. Service terminated on June 1, 1955, due to resignation.
