Education
The Center educates federal circuit, district, bankruptcy, and magistrate judges and court staff, including attorneys employed by the courts, federal defenders, personnel in court clerks’ offices, probation and pretrial services officers, and others. Subject areas include law, case management, the judicial role, leadership, ethics, and court management.
The Center works closely with its Board, education advisory committees, the courts, and other experts to identify educational needs and to develop and produce learning opportunities in various formats. These include interactive in-person programs, audio and video conferences, e-learning programs, instructional videos, podcasts, publications, and discussion forums.
Competency-Based Curriculum
In consultation with our education advisory committees, the Education Division has identified the specific competencies that inform a standard curriculum for each of our judicial and court staff populations. Competencies comprise the knowledge, skills, and attributes essential for people working in specific roles throughout the judiciary; they are the building blocks from which we design relevant educational programs for each population served.
Educational Programs and Products
We work with subject-matter experts from the courts and elsewhere to provide instruction on substantive legal topics, case and court management, probation and pretrial services, leadership, and professional development. We deliver learning opportunities in a variety of formats appropriate for the topic and audience, including interactive in-person programs, audio and video conferences, e-learning programs, instructional videos, podcasts, publications, discussion forums, and other online resources.
