This booklet has been prepared to introduce the work of the Federal Judicial Center, established by Congress in 1967 to assist the federal courts in the improvement of judicial administration. The booklet presents a collection of data against which the mission of the Center should be viewed: " We have attempted to convey the range and variety of the assistance we are providing and the hopes we have for bringing to bear every possible measure to correct problems and strengthen our legal institutions. This is not a catalog of projects or programs, but rather an inventory of approaches. Specific activities are mentioned only to illustrate the scope and depth of response." (excerpted from the booklet's foreword)
