After initial forecast modeling was done for each district, circuit, and for the nation as a whole, case filing volumes for 42 case categories were projected for 1979, 1984, and 1995. However, the large amount of information that resulted and the effort needed for maintenance and updating indicated the need for further refinement. In response to this need, this report describes modeling done for 20 case categories using a database consisting of:
- Generalized indicators: a subset of the original social, economic, and demographic variables selected on the value of the information they contain.
- Equivalent sets: a grouping of districts within a case category into sets that are consistent with respect to case filing activity over time.
The size of these results is much easier to integrate and can provide a working basis for extrapolation of models to predict future needs.
